PWHS Indoor Track Team is Currently Ranked in the Top 10 for States & NationallyUpdated on 01/07/2026
The PW boys and girls track teams proved to be record-setting, state-ranked, and nationally ranked over the winter break at the Apple Bank Hispanic Games at the Armory in NYC and the Marine Corps Invitational in NY.
On the girls’ side, junior Emma Simeral broke her own school record in the mile at the Robert Bernet Invitational, running a 5:19.44. This performance exceeded the state qualifying standard and currently ranks her #14 in Pennsylvania.
On the boys’ side, senior Devon Spruill improved his state-qualifying standard and currently sits at #11 in Pennsylvania. Senior Josh Bucko broke a 16-year-old indoor 800m school record, running 1:57.9 at the Marine Corps Invitational in NY, while also improving his state qualifying standard. He currently ranks #6 in Pennsylvania. Will Waerig broke another 16-year-old record, this time in the mile, running 4:34.84 at the Hispanic Games in NY. The boys’ DMR team (Brett Westerfer, Jake Watson, Chris Gekonge, and Josh Bucko) also broke a nine-year-old school record, running 11:03 and currently ranking #5 in Pennsylvania.
The holiday break was capped off with the boys’ 4x800m relay placing first at the Hispanic Games in NY with a time of 8:06.6, exceeding the state qualifying standard and ranking them #1 in Pennsylvania and #5 in the United States.
Additional highlights include Brett Westerfer also surpassing the previous 800m record, running 1:58.2, exceeding the state qualifying standard, and ranking #7 in Pennsylvania.
In addition, there were over two dozen personal bests achieved across the boys’ and girls’ teams in running, throwing, and jumping events over a 10-day period. While many of these rankings are expected to change, these early-season marks put our teams in a strong position for a historic season as they continue to improve.
